DEFENDING OUR SECURITY AT HOME AND ABROAD
Lee has been serving our country in the US Army for nearly 17 years, once a paratrooper in Iraq at the height of the war, and to this day as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve. For him, protecting our nation is more than just a campaign promise, it’s a commitment he’s owned. We should stand by our allies, be strong when dealing with our adversaries, and never send our troops into harm’s way without a clear mission, path to victory, and the necessary resources to win – send our troops to win or do not send them at all.
Nothing is more important than keeping America strong and safe from our enemies – both at home and abroad. On the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Lee is the Ranking Member on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. With the ISIS caliphate now eliminated and a strengthened posture taken by the United States to push back on Iranian aggression, Lee’s rise on the Committee has been increasingly important.
Once we get through this crisis – and we will get through this – we must hold China’s government accountable for the irreparable damage done to the world economy caused by their deliberate campaign of withholding vital information from the world at the beginning of this pandemic.
When the President took targeted and successful action to eliminate known terrorists Qassim Soleimani and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Lee strongly supported these decisive actions. Lee also introduced the Counterterrorism and Screening Assistance Act of 2019 (H.R. 630) to combat foreign fighter movement and encourage cooperation with our partners to strengthen international security standards.
To protect our security at home, we need to ensure we defend our borders and enforce our immigration laws. Defending our borders requires upholding our nation’s immigration laws. Lee has supported security and humanitarian assistance along the southern border to combat transnational gang activity, as well as drug and human trafficking. He’s also an outspoken critic of sanctuary state and city policies that are eroding public safety in New York.
Lee believes we must support legal immigration and oppose illegal immigration. We must support federal immigration authorities to ensure illegal immigrants who have committed crimes stay off the streets.
Proud of his Jewish faith, Lee is also a staunch supporter of the US-Israel relationship, standing shoulder to shoulder with a great ally to the United States in our effort to combat terrorism and as a beacon of freedom and Democracy in the Middle East. At moments when criticism of our great ally has been tainted with vile, anti-Semitic rhetoric, Lee has stood up and spoken out at every turn. That’s why Congressman Zeldin led a bipartisan resolution (H.Res. 246) that passed the House last year opposing the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement.
He also vigorously opposed the flawed Iran Nuclear Deal and will continue to oppose any efforts to appease Iran’s dangerous impulses towards developing a nuclear weapon.
